Online Student Success Mentor

Reports to: Director of Online Student Success

Job Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary: The Online Student Success Mentor serves the Adult & Graduate Studies to work with the online student body by supporting the academic goals from the first day of class through matriculation onto graduation. The position supports the University’s mission by student engagement, coaching and retaining the student for degree completion.

Job Responsibilities:

• Communicate student services, retention and degree completion.
• Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a highly collaborative environment.
• Assist students in setting short/long term goals and follow up with students.
• Monitor academic progress, engagement and student well-being and proactively intervene when indicators show student is at risk.
• Refer and connect students to appropriate university resources, including the Registrar, Financial Aid, Career and Calling, academic departments, counseling, tutoring, accessibility services, and technical support.
• Respond to emails and or callbacks within 24 business hours with the goal of same day.
• Provide customer service and support for new and matriculated students.
• Assist with special projects and temporary duties as assigned by Director.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in education related field preferred but not required.
• Ability to use PC and Mac systems to perform daily tasks.
• Must have a good work ethic and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work effectively with others
• Excellent organizational, project, and time management skills
• Adherence and support of the Houston Christian University statement of belief as required by the Preamble of the By-Laws of the university.
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately under tight deadlines
• Ability to quickly learn and use specific business software and hardware
• Ability to lift or move objects up to 25 lbs. – occasionally
• Ability to sit – extended periods of time
• Ability to stand for an extended period – occasionally
• Ability to walk reasonable distances – occasionally
• Ability to bend or stoop – occasionally
• Ability to climb or reach overhead – occasionally
• Ability to communicate via speech, hearing and sight – frequently
• Ability to work directly with students and diverse learner populations
• Availability to maintain a flexible, and student friendly schedule including occasional evenings and weekends if needed
