Director of Marketing
Reports to: Assistant Vice President for Marketing

Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing leads the university’s content creation and storytelling efforts, overseeing a talented team of editors and a video specialist to produce compelling narratives about our students and employees. This leadership role encompasses strategic planning and hands-on execution across multiple channels, including our biannual magazine, various digital newsletters and video content. The ideal candidate combines editorial excellence with production expertise, serving as both a visionary leader and a skilled practitioner who can identify powerful stories, guide the development and ensure their professional execution across all platforms.
Job Responsibilities:
Supervise the editors, video specialist and content generation processes, establishing workflows that maximize team efficiency and creative output.
Develop relationships and gather regular updates from key communicators in the university’s schools and departments.
Oversee the complete production cycle of the university’s biannual magazine, from concept development through final publication. Guide the selection and writing of stories and features for both the magazine and the HC.edu News and Events website.
Manage the university’s video operation, including project selection, resource allocation, and production scheduling. Optimize video operation for marketing and storytelling, rejecting video production requests that do not help with strategic marketing goals.
Identify and develop story opportunities that showcase the achievements and experiences of university students and employees.
Guide the procurement, selection and writing of stories and/or features on the HC.edu News and Events website.
Evaluate content performance and adjust strategies to improve engagement and reach.
Manage the scheduling, development, production, quality testing and review of all e-news products including digital newsletters for students, parents, prospective student and internal employee audiences. Ensure each e-news edition is reviewed and quality checked by you or another editor on the team.
Supervise internal email communication through both the Campus Connections e-news and supervision of internal mass emails (i.e. notices from the administration to employees).
Lead and/or coordinate various projects related to marketing and branding efforts for the University to influence prospective students, alumni, parents, as well as faculty/staff.
Interface with vendors and outside agencies as needed on behalf of the marketing team.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in marketing, content creation or editorial leadership.
Demonstrated experience in print and/or digital publication production, including magazines and e-newsletters.
Exceptional storytelling abilities with keen editorial judgment and attention to narrative development.
Experience in higher education marketing or institutional communications strongly preferred.
Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective team leadership and cross-departmental collaboration.
Any demonstrable experience in scriptwriting or serving in a producer role for professional video.
Knowledge and understanding of various social media platforms and how to market an organization and build brand equity online.
Bachelor’s degree required, master's preferred, in marketing, communications, business or a related field.
